Start with who you are, where you are now, what matters to you and what you want more or less of.

Then explore the possibilities.

The old story of work no longer fits

Education. Work really hard. Retire.

Almost as if we work flat out for decades and then retire off a cliff.

But real careers don’t look like that anymore.

They zigzag. We step sideways, take time out, change direction, retrain, start again and sometimes do something completely unexpected.

And retirement can be a big transition too. Work gives us more than money. It can give us structure, identity, belonging and connection.

So rather than simply stopping, perhaps the answer is to work differently.
